Managing waste efficiently across a large corporate campus can be complex. With hundreds of indoor and outdoor bins spread across offices, cafeterias, and communal areas, it becomes difficult to know which bins are full, where contamination occurs, and how people are using them.
To meet strict sustainability targets and reduce unnecessary waste collections, a leading technology company partnered with SmartEnds to deploy an AI-powered VisnLine system tailored for 120L and 1100L bins.
This innovation delivers continuous visibility of bin usage, contamination, and fill levels — directly supporting the company’s sustainability reporting and waste reduction goals.
The company needed an automated solution that could see inside every bin, provide accurate data, and help drive behavioral change across employees.
SmartEnds took its VisnLine AI system, originally designed for large industrial containers, and re-engineered it into a compact version for smaller bins — bridging the gap between scale and precision.
The new VisnLine features a smaller housing, optimized lens angle, adaptive lighting, and a redesigned mounting system.
It is placed inside the bin, allowing it to monitor fill levels and detect contamination from within.
All design elements — including power source, connectivity, and internal positioning — were optimized for easy deployment across indoor and outdoor bins.
The compact VisnLine captures images every 30 minutes, analyzing fill levels and identifying contamination in real time.
The data is transmitted to the SmartEnds cloud dashboard via a secure wireless connection, providing continuous insight into waste behavior across the site.
Collected data reveals how employees use bins, how often they are filled, and whether waste is placed in the correct category.
This information is then integrated into the company’s sustainability analytics platform, helping track progress toward zero-waste goals and optimize operational planning.
The deployment of 100 compact VisnLine devices across the corporate campus delivered immediate value:
